visits from old pals

Author: JT   |  Apr 30th, 2008

guanghui came for a surprise visit in his sparkling brand new (old model actually) honda fit, oh and did i mention it was super souped up?

he promised to come visit me when my legs were still injured and that was already history but at least he came anyway.

accompanied him for dinner but i only drank since i just finished my dinner.

he was actually working in an ah beng handphone shop but he just recently started his own shop, somewhere near my place.

great to see him doing so well and earning much more than me but of course his earnings are sorta…illegal but hey, money is money regardless of legal or not legal.

think maybe i should try doing something like him and earn myself a little bit of extra cash.

teck kin promised a supper treat and told me he’ll be here around 12am to pick me up but the time now is 12.20am and he’s still at home waiting for his dad to return with the car.

i think i’ll pester him to drive me to simpang bedok for supper later when he comes, just love the food there!

not been having suppers lately, my usual supper kakis are either busy with work or still feeling sour over our recent squabble.

oh well, at least i’ll have supper tonight and i intend to have something good!

//update//

i was made to wait for teck kin till 2am in the morning, that’s 2 hours of waiting time!

it was definitely going to be his treat!

went down to the 24 hours prata shop at bukit timah and ate a plate of mee goreng wrapped in egg, 2 glasses of ice lemon team and shared a bowl of mutton.

he was supposed to pick his sister, who was watching soccer at a friend’s place, up after some match so we had plenty of time to waste.

drove back to my place and walked around the neighbourhood, teck kin was once from the same neighbourhood but too bad he moved out

talked a lot, really a lot…

i don’t know why but every time i meet up with teck kin, we’ll end up talking non stop.

if it weren’t for the fact that i was having a bad tummy ache, we’ll probably talk for another couple hours or something.

lol!

thanks teck kin, for the treat and for the time!

seafood ah seafood

planned for an early mother’s day celebration tomorrow for my grandmother, joining us will be my 2nd aunt’s family so there’ll be a total of 9 of us including my cousin’s baby.

the bill was supposed to be split between the 3 families but we, the young generation, decided to be generous and give them a surprise treat tomorrow.

and then comes the hard part…deciding where to go for dinner.

we had choices from tong lok in vivo, black society in vivo, imperial kitchen in vivo, nosignboard in esplanade, long beach in holland and jumbo in east coast.

chances are, my 2nd aunt wanted somewhere cheap since she doesn’t know we’re paying so she probably wants to go somewhere my mom doesn’t.

for us younger generation, as long as there’s good food, we don’t mind paying the few extra bucks and not nick pick on things like gst and service charges.

i guess for now we’ve settled for jumbo at east coast but i expect last minute changes.

i’m actually trying to sell the idea of going to jade palace in keppel club, went there previously with kc and colin and the food there was quite good.

for $40 a pax, we could have unlimited crabs, prawns and everything we can find in the other seafood restaurants but that’s just an idea…

i’ll probably need my oldest cousin to back me up otherwise it’ll just be an idea and be kept that way.

gst package and my bonus is in so i have a little extra to spurge before i turn broke again.

and i somehow foresee the conversation tomorrow between me and my cousin will be all on battle stations.

lol!

naruto manga

Author: JT   |  Apr 30th, 2008

been wanting to download the manga and catch up with the storyline but just didn’t put in the time and effort to look for them.

well, finally managed to convince myself to start downloading it and thank god for programs like flashget and reget other wise i will be clicking on the damn links for over 400+ times.

managed to download everything in 1 night and spent the rest of the evening reading the manga…

i would say the storyline for naruto is getting better with more twists and turns but i’m still feeling sad that jiraiyeh and itachi had to die,

they were both my idols in the naruto world.

the day of cabs

wanted to have an early night but waited for trond to come online till almost 3am, he needed me to go down to his company to up his exchange server so i had to wait for him to brief me on what i needed to do.

tried sleeping at 4am but just couldn’t sleep, ended up sleeping at almost 7am.

originally intended to wake up at 8am and reach his office by 9am but i just couldn’t wake up, only managed to get to the office by 10am.

sometimes i really think microsoft hire brainless programmers for their products, i’ll get to this later.

the problem was that exchange had a storage limit of 16gb but upgradeable if you upgrade to service pack 3 but trond’s server just refuses to up its limit to anything more than 16gb.

and so when the storage limit reaches its maximum of 16gb, the whole service will just shut down by itself refusing to let anyone connect to the exchange server.

i tried for almost an hour trying to bring the limit up to 32gb but no matter how many times i googled, i get the same answers and they just don’t seem to work on his server.

the alternative but stupid way was to up the exchange service (which dies after 1 minutes) and quickly access someone’s mailbox and delete some mails from there hoping that i can bring the mailbox size to less than 16gb.

that of course didn’t quite work cause by the time i walked over to the nearest user, the service will be dead by then.

requested help from dreamland and xizor but they didn’t know what to do as well so google was my best bet.

as mentioned earlier, microsoft sometimes don’t use their brains when developing a new product, the exchange service is set to shut down by itself if the mailbox hits the limit but they don’t give you an option to clear the emails.

so now that the users can’t connect to clear their emails and i’m not able to clear the emails on the server end, what can i do?

think i spent at least 30 minutes googling for it and realised that i’m not the only one encountering this problem.

it was passed lunch time and i was getting hungry so decided on the last but temporary solution which was to edit the damn registry (on the server) to up the mailbox storage size by 1gb temporary and quickly get the users to clear their emails.

this works but how stupid can the system be?

i know it’s the job of the administrator to monitor the mailbox but i’m sure they have other better things to do than to monitor it 24/7 and to keep reminding users to delete away unwanted emails.

and the users have not even maxed out their allocated mailbox size in the first place…

finally got the exchange up and started getting the users to clear their unwanted emails, i then realised that trond’s cousin, the general manager of the company has a mailbox size of almost 200mb.

yes i’m sure that guy as a general manager has a lot of work but 200mb of emails on the exchange? why can’t he just move the emails to a personal folder or something?

stayed for another 30 minutes to make sure every thing’s okay before calling for a cab, there was no way i could walk out cause it was so darn far away from the main road and there were no buses.

and so i thought it was over…or not.

when i was just about to open my house door thinking of my chicken rice that i bought from the coffee shop, trond called again and said the fax server went down and they needed my help again.

quickly finished my chicken rice and enjoyed the air-con a little before hailing a cab to the office again.

when i got there, i realised that the fax server was actually up and running and it was the other party’s fax that had problems.

wtf???

stayed for another 30 minutes to make sure everything went well before calling for another cab home.

$20 worth of cab gone in a matter of hours…

i wonder if i can claim for cab fare.
