clear channel’s 7th anniversary

met trond for lunch at jurong point, didn’t really feel like leaving house actually but he wanted me to in office so lan pah pah lan

his sister was around as well and we went to the crystal jade on the 3rd floor.

my first time there actually, i’m not a fan of crystal jade…i personally find the food there average with crazy price tags.

ordered a bowl of ma la beef noodles which cost almost $10 after taxes and it was horrible!

sophie ordered the same thing as me and she ended up crying while eating the noodles, it was hot hot hot, not the nice spicy hot but just hot hot.

my lips and tongue were numb and i almost drown myself with ice water.

this is a very plain example of spending money to make yourself suffer…okay i wasn’t the one paying but still the experience was horrible, probably my last time in any of the crystal jade noodle restaurants.

went back to office and did some rather random jobs, called a few metal suppliers but most of them couldn’t make me what i wanted, the rare few that can do it have crazy prices. something like $10 000 for 2 pieces of aluminum casings for my 47″ lcd televisions.

realised that the event is started at 7 instead of 8pm thanks to teck kin so we had to rush, trond had to fetch sophie back home as she didn’t drive and so we ended up there late, not that it matters anyway since we are no one there.

just a short background of the event…

this is an event to celebrate clear channel’s 7th anniversary. clear channel is an advertising firm that owns 70% of singapore’s bus stop ads, the last 30% are owned by another company (forgot the name).

the event was held in zouk and teck kin managed to get me 2 invites, he was also going to introduce me to another friend of his, a marketing executive in clear channel.

i actually wanted to take pictures of the event but i had to choose such a day to lose my camera…sad!

i was contemplating if we should have a quick dinner before going for the event but teck kin called and said there were free food so that settles everything,

gave the reception a name card for luck draw and went in, the event has already started and they hired the mediacorp artiste enlai as the host.

for the first 15 minutes, all we concentrated on was the food and drinks, there were only small finger food but they tasted good and it was never ending, they kept refilling the containers once it’s emptied.

was damn thirsty so went to the bar and got 5 cups of orange juice, trond wasn’t far behind me and had 3 cups of ginger ale.

it was then that i finally took notice of the event and the people around me.

marketing/advertising is definitely a young people’s game, didn’t see much oldies around, average age was probably around 26-35.

enlai was actually doing quite a good job as the host and they even had a local band to perform, alongside with a couple of games and of course, the lucky draw.

teck kin’s wife got the 4th prize, an accounting software from myob which i think should be the last price and teck kin’s colleague from launch group got the 1st price, a ticket for 2 to macau…so lucky!

took a few group photos before going back (will post the pictures when i get my hands on them) with a huge speedpost box as a door gift…there were actually 2 door gifts, the men were given just the speedpost box but the ladies went back with the speedpost box and a lingerie from some designer brand.

why can’t they give us guys some branded undies as well? so sexist!

anyway, the speedpost box was fully sponsored and contained a heap of surprises, took some pictures of the goodies inside with my iphone so bear with the blurry pictures until i get myself a new camera.

here’s the box, impressive door gift eh?

ta da!

snacks!

erm, condoms? they actually gave only 1 pack but trond had no use for it so he gave his to me…extra thin one hor!

hair dye! again got the 2nd bottle from trond…this will save me 2 months of dying in saloons

a female magazine, probably give to my mom tomorrow

a multipurpose pouch from prudential, think i will give it to my mom as well

assorted stuffs like a box of tissue paper, teeth whitening toothpaste, a fan, a pen, some vouchers, a lollipop and some chinese medicated balm

sweets!

and of course, a clear channel brochure

actually wanted to go home after the event but trond had some issues with his girlfriend in shanghai and didn’t wanna go back so early so decided to go for a movie.

somehow i remember there were no shows after 10pm on weekdays but trond insisted there were midnight movies everyday in cathay or gv plaza so we drove over and realise i was right!

decided to go for supper instead at bukit timah, had a plate of mee goreng pataya, one of the favourite dishes at that place.

met one of my bmt recourse sergeants but can’t remember his name, he couldn’t see me either anyway.

also met my ex-fling from woodlands with 2 friends, i pretended not to see even thought their table was just beside ours and carried on with my conversation with trond.

i will probably waste my coming weekend doing up the proposals and slides so i can start my marketing to the people i met today by end of next week.

free labour!

p/s: special thanks to teck kin for getting me the invites and introducing me to clear channel’s marketing people…thanks buddy!
