firefox 3 not working well with wordpress 2.5.1

Author: JT   |  Jun 24th, 2008

changed to firefox 3 a few days back but realised that the auto spell check doesn’t work for wordpress 2.5.1.

love the spell check function since version 1 and finding myself handicapped due to the loss of the spell check function.

wish they would do something about it and get it fixed soon.

//update//

oh it’s working now… lol

wwdc disappointments

Author: JT   |  Jun 10th, 2008

while the iphone waiters are happy that the new iphone is going to be launched in singapore, i somehow don’t feel excited over it.

being an owner of the original iphone for almost a year now, all novelty of the product is long gone.

although i must say the iphone 3g is packed with functions and dirt cheap at usd$299 for the 16gb version, i somehow don’t feel the urge to upgrade when it launches in singapore on july 11th.

anyway, stayed up till very late last night just praying that steve jobs will be coming out with a new macbook pro but it never happen.

should i just get the current macbook pro now and kick myself in the face it a new model launches at the end of the year or should i still wait for another 6-7 months for the new release?

after much consideration, i think i will get the current model first and decide again when the new model is release since i really need a new laptop soon.

upgrade to vista or wait for windows7?

Author: JT   |  Apr 29th, 2008

been thinking of this for sometime already but yet to decide on an answer…

i’ve got licenses for vista business/ultimate on hand but do i really want/need to upgrade to vista?

certainly my computer can handle vista since i build it for vista but just remembering the problems i had when i first installed vista is enough to give me a headache.

now that i’ve installed the last service pack available for windows xp, service pack 3, is it the end of the road for xp?

i’ve always been a faithful fan of uncle gates, changing to whatever new operating systems they come up with, sometimes even before they release the official release.

being faithful has nothing to do with being an idiot spending few hundred on operating systems…

and now that i’ve decided to move to mac when apple decides to release their new macbook pros, do i really need to upgrade my home pc to vista when i’m very comfortable with xp.

do i really need to spend that 1-2 days sitting down fixing whatever bugs there is in vista and hope everything works perfectly fine.

or should i just skip vista, screw the support (i doubt i need the support anyway) and upgrade to windows7 when it launches in a few years time.

or will uncle gates decide that windows7 will need more time than expected, like vista, and release it only half a decade later?

i foresee myself on my laptop more than on my home computer once work starts probably in mid june or in july and i can always install vista on my laptop as an alternative if i really need to use windows…

so should i upgrade my computer to vista at this moment?

i think my answer’s clear…

i shall wait for windows7.

or i might even buy a imac as my next home computer if i really come to love it.

wordpress 2.5.1

just realised that there’s a new version of wordpress and so i installed it,

supposed to have some bug fixes but nothing “see-able” to the layman’s eyes.

widgets, domains, renewed

Author: JT   |  Apr 23rd, 2008

only realised that the widgets i use from neoworx will be expiring in just 3 more days so i quickly renewed for another year.

i’m actually just using 3 out of the 5 widgets provided but renewing the 3 is about the same price as renewing all 5 under 1 of the discounted packages so i decided to just renew under the package.

i’ve actually tried adding in the neopod and neokube but it just doesn’t fit my blog so decided to just use back the normal widgets i’ve been using for the past year.

however, i did add in a new widget, neoearth, which can be found just below my neocounter.

other than this, i also renewed 3 domains that were expiring within 30 days.

some people might think it’s a silly idea for spending so much money on just a few widgets and domains but to me, i like it nice and i think it’s nice…it’s my blog after all yeah?

macbook or macbook pro

Author: JT   |  Apr 18th, 2008

it could be due to the fact that i ate too much during supper but i just can’t get to sleep.

went to bed around 2am and kept tossing and turning till 4am.

gave up trying to sleep and started surfing on my laptop in bed, was trying to decide if i should get the macbook or macbook pro.

asked adree got some advice since he’s a convert and he’s very happy with it.

the difference between macbook and macbook pro (from what i read) is just that macbook pro has a slightly faster processor, a dedicated graphics card, more usb/firewire slots, a slightly bigger screen and built using better materials.

the price difference for the macbook i originally wanted (the black one) and the higher range model (15″) of macbook pro is around $1388.

is there a need for me to pay so much more for the macbook pro?

i do play games but that’s very seldom ever since i got my wii and i really don’t foresee myself playing much games anyway on a os x platform.

however, from the reviews i read so far, everyone is recommending the macbook pro instead of the macbook and i’m really having second thoughts of the black macbook.

the only thing i really like about the macbook is that it comes in black while the pro version comes in only silver.

and reviews after speaking to 3 os x converts (adree & james are using macbook pro while felicia is using macbook) tell me that they won’t be going back to windows anytime soon unless really needed.

windows can also be installed on both macbooks as well if required.

so a macbook or a macbook pro?

that’ll depend on my commission if i manage to get the deal this coming weekend,

if i don’t, all these will be wishful planning anyway.

keeping my fingers crossed.

anyway, back to the sleepless night…

there was a sudden storm around 5.30am with plenty of lightning and thunder and thanks to that, my whole house’ circuit board tripped 2 times meaning i have to get out of bed and walk downstairs with a lighter to turn on the switch manually.

this of course adds to my sleeplessness and i think i only manage to get some sleep around 6.30am,

and i have to get up at 8.30am.

i didn’t really get a good sleep, kept waking up half consciously and i actually heard my alarm ring meaning i was awake even before my alarm went off.

went back to bed again and only woke up after receiving trond’s sms saying he’ll be here inĀ  25 minutes, quickly got out of bed and got ready and as usual, he wasn’t here in 25 minutes.

now in office helping him do firefighting, think i can start a new career in being a firefighter.

2 torrent sites down

Author: JT   |  Apr 12th, 2008

it’s been a long time since i did any search for torrents (besides animes where i have other webbies for it) and when i did do a search today, i came to realise that 2 of my favourite torrent sites have closed down.

my all time favourite, torrentspy.com

and the super popular site, isohunt.com (they weren’t really closed, it was just a temporary downtime)

isoHunt is Sick

Everyone wants a piece of isoHunt. Ya, all the good torrents you can get. Do a search and all the torrents are neatly presented with cute little dropdown details in an animated, expanding box. But does anyone care about our feelings? Ever since me and my brothers are born in Chinese factories, we’ve done nothing but to slice and dice your search requests, look them up in databases and indexes, and spit out pretty HTML pages. It’s a boring and thankless job. Your relentless search queries have overworked us and now Bob is sick. He won’t cough up data anymore, I’m not sure why. I’m sure the engineers are on their way to fix him up, but won’t you stop hitting the Refresh button so often? You know, I like the attention that we are getting now, but somehow I think you care more about those pretty HTML pages we normally hand out than about us. Oh well, I suppose that’s why we were created, our meaning of life being serving data and cruching numbers. But just remember us once in a while ok? Us magical fairies who finds what you seek?

We should be back in action soon. Until then, I heard the guys at Google does a pretty good job with searching for stuff too (not as good as us, of course). If you are here to search for the meaning of life, the universe and everything however, we’ll need a much much larger upgrade to calculate that. You’ll have to come back in at least a few million years and try again.

Sincerely,
Your faithful web serving minions

ie8?

Author: JT   |  Apr 10th, 2008

just downloaded and installed the beta version of internet explorer 8 (ie8).

i don’t usually install betas but since i seldom use ie, i decided to give it a try.

nothing much has been changed on the interface, looks and works just the same as ie7.

browsing seems to take even longer than ie7 (which was already the slowest amount all my browsers) and they seem to look different,

for my blog at least…

my blog looks normal on ie6/7 but looks really ugly on ie8,

i shall be a himbo (a male version of bimbo) like xiaxue and start hurling nonsensical abuses at ie8, microsoft, bill gates and everyone that uses microsoft products.

or not!

wordpress 2.5

Author: JT   |  Mar 20th, 2008

tested out wordpress 2.5 candidate release 1 on a spare domain today and realised that a few of my favourite plugins are not able to work properly.

the interface will also take me sometime to get used to.

the only good news is that my theme will work flawlessly with the new version.

the big question will be, should i upgrade it once it’s out or should i wait for more plugins to be available before upgrading.

will have to ponder over it for sometime, as of now, i just hope the final release won’t be out so quickly.
